Assistant Center Director
We are currently fundraising for a state-of-the-Art Child Development Center and therefore in need for an Assistant Director to complete our culturally diverse team & programs. The AD will work closely with our Executive Director and Team of Directors, and reports to our Director of Education.
Our Assistant Director will be responsible for the oversight of our unique program; will assist in the development and implementation of programs including day to day activity and learning plans, progress, safety and well being of the children as well as the knowledge of and conformance of all regulations as required by licensing agencies.
Some of the exciting things that you will do as an Assistant Director include, but are not limited to:

We prefer applicants with at least 1-3 years of experience in an AD role, in a child development setting. Applicants with different levels of experience, however, are also welcome to apply; what we care about more than the applicant’s exact work background is finding someone who is very passionate, hard-working, organized, and excited about working with may others in a fast-pace environment dedicated t health education. If that describes you, shoot us a note. Bilingual is a huge plus (spanish/french).
You make your own schedule but one weekly meetings are required! Once our school opens, the p/t position will transition into a f/t paid position with all perks!
Lead-Teacher(s)/Teacher(s)
In order to be considered for any of our TEACHER positions, you must meet all state licensing requirements, including:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Bachelors degree with 12 credits in early childhood, child development or related field and one year of full time teaching experience in a child day care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program and one year of experience supervising staff OR
- TX State Children’s Program Administrator Credential and one year of full time teaching experience in a child day care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program and one year of experience supervising OR
- Associates degree in early childhood or related field with a plan of study leading to a bachelor’s degree and two years of full time teaching experience in a child day care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program and two years of experience supervising OR
- Child Development Associate credential with a plan of study leading to a bachelor’s degree and two years of full time teaching experience in a child day care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program and two years of experience supervising OR
- Associates degree in early childhood or related field with a plan of study leading to a TX State Children’s Program Administrator Credential and two years of full time teaching experience in a child day care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program and two years of experience supervising OR
- Bi-lingual is a huge plus (spanish/french).
Internship Positions (on-going)
We are seeking to fill the following Internship positions:
- Program Development Intern
- Human Resources Intern
- Web-Development and Technical Intern
- Marketing/Development and Communications Intern
- Health and Nutrition Research Intern
Program Development Intern
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Development intern will work with WKA’s staff for a minimum of 6 months. The intern will assist in writing of grant proposals, including background research on funders and gathering of up-to-date statistical information to be incorporated into proposals. Other responsibilities will include assisting in organizing events, helping with events at different locations, maintaining our donor database, and helping with donor appeals as well as other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Strong research and communication skills required. Experience and/or knowledge of basic non-profit or marketing preferred. Graphic design and copy writing expertise preferred.
Human Resources Intern
POSITION DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a highly motivated and self-directed individual to work up to 20 hours per week in the WKA group. The Intern reports to the Executive Director and will support the WKA staff by performing the following duties:
Coordinate, schedule and assist with training/orientation marketing, communications, publications, and registration for WKA events. Schedule interviews and focus groups.
Responsible for screening of future employees. Assists with the interview process. Liaise with partners to enhance delivery of services. Create and maintain databases. Assist with maintaining and updating web site content. Organize and enter assessment data. Generate reports and correspondence related to WKA operations and ongoing needs assessment.
Assist with training and development initiatives and programs. Responsible for draft of employee policies and handbook. Present, facilitate and train WKA event participants as needed. NOTE: Applicants must be able to tele-communicate and work from a home-office!
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. Excellent research, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work well in a collaborative and team work environment. Must be detail-oriented and possess strong analytical skills. Must be able to manage multiple priorities. Must be dependable and professional. Basic proficiency of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Outlook required.
Web-Development and Technical Intern
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Assist in developing and creating a fresh look for our homepage and other sites we blog and post through. Help implement new web features and troubleshoot existing website problems. Create interactive maps and set-up donation links/sites. Help in the continuing development of the WKA blogging portal. Assist with the technical and communication support. Set-up of our online store and related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Undergraduate coursework in related field preferred. Strong interest in advocacy for human services organizations/issues. Creativity! Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Experience with Photoshop required (or similar programs). Experience with technical troubleshooting a plus. Very detail-oriented. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Must be able to work from home!
Marketing/Development and Communications Intern
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The WKA Marketing/Community Relations Intern will work closely with the Executive Director to assist in marketing development projects such as press releases, website updates, blogs, etc. He/she will also assist in creating and managing a community outreach plan, partnering with local schools, Universities, ‘green’ stores, and other organizations in implementing infrastructure for a steady stream of donations. This position also has an incredible opportunity for growth, and at WKA we support all creative ideas and endeavors in increasing our visibility and donations. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in gaining valuable first hand experience in non profit management, marketing, and development. This is NOT a coffee fetching/paper stuffing internship. We work hard to ensure that all staff and interns gain valuable work skills that will prepare them for the non profit job market. And as WKA grows, the possibility for staff growth increases as well.
REQUIREMENTS: A “people person” who is interested in developing non profit skills and experience. Self-motivated, flexible and highly organized. Strong interest in start-up business development, sales management and online programs and services. Very comfortable with learning and utilizing a range of web-based programs. Enjoys working in a laid back and fun environment!
Health and Nutrition Research Intern
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: This position reports to our Fresh Food Service and Educational Garden Program Director. Assist with the implementation of nutrition programs, collect and analyze data, implement evaluation, in coordination with WKA program staff. Prepare final report that analyzes data and also evaluates the specific programs and its accomplishments. Prepare nutrition program grant applications for funding opportunities. Help develop and finalize garden-based nutrition and physical education curriculum for the WKA Program. Assignments involving nutrition may include assisting with research studies, literature reviews, reports on specific nutrition topics, data analysis for projects and surveys, assistance with the development or revising of nutrition educational materials, and participation in outreach activities such as tabling at scientific conferences.
REQUIREMENTS: Dedication to the objectives of the organization and a strong interest in organic nutrition. Resourceful, innovative, and productive. Capability to work in both a team environment and alone with minimal supervision. Must be able to work from home as well as in an office environment!
Internship Hours and Compensation
Hours are very flexible to accommodate other commitments. We are a big fan of self-motivation and telecommunication! The Intern’s general hours per week can range from 5-20. Currently this is an un-paid internship, with room for growth within the company and our outreach offices! All internships can be structured to be suitable for college credit. The work environment at WKA is fun-loving, laid back, positive and fast-paced.
These internships are NOT coffee fetching/paper stuffing internships. We work hard to ensure that all staff and interns gain valuable work skills that will prepare them for the non profit job market. And as WKA grows, the possibility for staff growth increases as well.

Each blogger will contribute to a leading blog covering news and offering commentary. Previous blogging experience is welcome but not necessary; strong writing skills are required. Blogs range from 1 – 6 posts per week.
